PATHOLOGY

Pathology is a medical discipline that is focused on the study and diagnosis of disease. It forms the bridge between Pre Clinical & Clinical Sciences. Clinical pathology involves the examination of surgically removed organs, tissues (biopsy samples), body fluids, and, in some cases, the whole body (autopsy). Pathology also includes the related scientific study of disease processes whereby the causes, mechanisms and extent of disease are examined. It is to do with the application of advances in basic biological sciences, understand the nature and evaluation of each disease in detail.

The Department of Pathology in Sapthagiri Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Center, Bengaluru, now under Sapthagiri NPS University, started way back in the year 2010 and has shown an exponential growth since then, with its alumni spread all over the world.

The Department of Pathology imparts theoretical and practical training to the II MBBS students. The Department of Pathology helps students advance their knowledge of pathological conditions. The Department utilizes advanced systems for routine and specialized diagnosis and students are encouraged to refer to the vast collection of CDs and slides. Computers and Binocular Microscopes with CCTV further aid students in the learning process.

The department is well equipped with necessary infrastructure especially adequate specimens for museum, slides for study, audio-visual aids and department library which has more than120 books and academic CDs along with open access peer reviewed journals. The department has air-conditioned spacious laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art instruments, ten-headed and penta-headed microscopes with plasma TV for postgraduate teaching. 

Department of Pathology provides its diagnostic service through its NABL accredited labs and is a part of Sapthagiri Hospital. It is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities in including automated microtomes, histokinettes, tissue embedding station, cryostats, IHC auto-stainers, penta-head microscopes, automated coagulometer, hematology auto-analysers, automated stainers in Cytology and Histopathology, automated urine analyser, automated ESR etc. The External Quality Assurance Scheme (EQAS)is being followed in all the divisions of Pathology.

The training is conducted by experienced and dedicated faculty. The faculty members are trained in basic and advanced medical education technology as well as in the new competency based medical education (CBME) curriculum for undergraduate and postgraduates as prescribed by National Medical Council.
