Forensic Medicine & Toxicology

Forensic Medicine is a multidisciplinary subject that utilizes knowledge of medicine which aids to administer justice in court of law. In this department, through various teaching learning methods, students are taught about importance of communication, documentation, informed consent, unethical behavior in medical practice, record maintenance, clinical toxicology. Students are taught to identify the medicolegal cases, police intimation, & issuing certificates like medical certificate of cause of death,wound certificate, age estimation, sexual offence etc.

The department possess moot court facility to make students aware of court proceedings and relevant legal sections applicable to medical practice. The department museum is well equipped with weapons, toxicology  and soft tissue specimens, charts, models etc.

Department is having mortuary with adequate cold storage facility to store bodies and is approved by government for conducting medicolegal autopsy. Students attend post mortem cases of varied aetiologies and learn to interpret autopsy findings,  preservation of evidence and prepare postmortem reports.
