The Department of Surgery at Saptagiri NPS University is a leader in surgical education, clinical practice, and cutting-edge research. Under the expert guidance of Dr. Ramesh M. Tambat, the department offers an exceptional training environment for aspiring surgeons, combining academic rigor with hands-on experience.
Currently the department has bed strength of 320, 8 surgical units, 26 postgraduates per year.The department provides comprehensive training in a wide array of surgical specialties, including general surgery and advanced laparoscopic surgery.
A unique feature of the department is its collaboration with the prestigious University of Minnesota. This partnership facilitates a weekly teaching program in which our postgraduate students actively participate, benefiting from international perspectives and the opportunity to learn from renowned experts in the field.
The department is also deeply committed to community service. Every month, faculty and students organize and participate in surgical camps, offering free surgeries to underserved populations and providing crucial healthcare services to those who cannot afford them. This initiative reflects the department’s dedication to improving healthcare accessibility and addressing the needs of marginalized communities.
Faculty:
The Strength of the Department is its faculty with 13 professors, 1 associate professor, 16 assistant professors and 8 senior residents. The department has committed personnel with teaching and surgical expertise.
Each Faculty updates periodically with most of them acquiring Minimal access surgery fellowships in their specialty of choice. They also have their presence in national and international conferences in addition to publications in indexed journals.
They are invited from various other medical colleges in India for continuing Medical Education and are also examiners in various universities across India including National Board of Examinations.
Academics:
Department of General Surgery is committed to both Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching. It caters to 250 undergraduate students and 26 Postgraduate Students every year.

Clinical focus:
The department of General Surgery is committed in achieving excellence in patient experience and outcomes in General Surgery.
Out Patient Services:
Outpatient services are provided between 9 am to 4 pm by the consultants of the department.
In Patient Services:
Round the clock 24/7 services are offered by a consultant assisted junior residents for both elective services and surgical emergencies including trauma care.

The department brings out a quality thesis every year as part of the PG teaching program.
All the junior residents of the department, as part of their training, prepare their thesis under the guidance of a senior professors. Our consultants are also involved in various research projects/clinical trials.
