Microbiology

The Department of Microbiology,  Sapthagiri Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Sciences was established in the year 2010-2011.
We are actively involved in academic and clinical work, both within the college and hospital.
Knowledge and skills related to Diagnostic Microbiology, Infection Control are instilled among  students: Undergraduates and Postgraduates of both Medical, Allied and Nursing Sciences and also to the faculty working at different cadres, both in the hospital and college set up.
We implement Competency Based Medical Education by practicing active teaching-learning methods with real-life situations ensuring students learn and become professionals par excellence. Guest lectures, workshops and conferences are conducted for students and faculty for Continuing Medical Education. Students are encouraged to present papers and posters in the CME’s attended.
Our faculty motivate student’s research and guide them with various projects, steering them towards becoming future innovators and thinkers.
We have a fully functioning NABL accredited Diagnostic Lab, 24/7, with Bacteriology, Immunology, Virology, Serology, Mycology and Parasitology sections, dealing with various diagnostic samples aiding patient care.
We have state -of -the -art instruments ensuring quality  reports.
Our molecular lab is actively involved in molecular diagnostics activity. We have contributed actively during the Covid -19 pandemic and continue to do so.
We actively participate in the institute’s Infection Control and Prevention practices (IPC) as a team, to provide patient safety and care in our NABH accredited hospital.
